Wisdom Sea - Educational Program

Sustainability Program Director

As Director of Sustainability, I led Escola Global’s integration into the European Blue Schools network. We designed a curriculum that combined science, sustainability, and creativity, embedding marine environmental studies. We built a strong network of partnerships with organizations such as MedGardens-Cleanwave, Save the Med, IMEDEA, and the Marine Biology Department at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). Students stepped out into the real world to investigate, experiment, and learn from experts.

Key examples of projects:

  • Fieldwork at Parc Natural de Mondragó: As part of the Year 10 geography curriculum, students investigated coastal erosion and analyzed landforms to produce their reports.

  • Posidonia Research: In their biology lessons, students collected samples of Posidonia oceanica from the sea, conducted scientific analysis, and created scientific illustrations for their field notebooks.

  • Sea Turtle Rescue Simulations: Following a news story about a loggerhead turtle nesting on Palma beach, Year 8 students studied species protection protocols. On board with the Almas Marinas Foundation, they also learned how to assist turtles entangled in plastic waste.

Young Reporters for the Sea

One of the program’s highlights was Young Reporters for the Sea, developed in collaboration with MedGardens. Students investigated human impact on marine ecosystems and created journalistic reports, interviewing local fishermen, scientists, and chefs.

All three student groups won first prize at the national level in their respective categories. Their projects were featured in local media, including radio and television, recognized for their creativity and contribution to sustainability.
